Photography is both an art and a craft. While taking pictures by yourself is satisfying, nothing compares to the fun and the learning one gets from joining a group of like-minded people - especially when everyone is generous with his/her talents, always ready and willing to share a tip or two, and appreciates and respects other people’s perspective of what makes beautiful pictures.
During the third and last quarter of 2007, a group of beginner and amateur photographers started sharing pictures and experiences in capturing everyday stories through their cameras in www.siampinoy.com. The group’s passion for the art and craft of photography got other forumers interested and involved.
In the discussions, each one gets a chance to talk about his/her love for photography, and what each one wanted to learn more of. It is a positive gathering of people who share the same interest, and thus, daily online discussions continue with much enthusiasm. Because of the nature of an online community, everyone gets a chance to view other people’s photos at their own leisure - may it be at breaks, lunches, or in the evenings in the comfort of their own homes.
In the forum, SPAS have weekly assignments which is open to everybody. It’s an avenue where you get surprised at what people can come up with, considering the oftentimes limited opportunities to take pictures. At times, people are up until 2 AM, enthusiastically taking photos so they can post them in the forum and get feedback from others the very next day. One can also post pictures in “Show Us Your Latest Shots”, “Critique My Photo”, “Photo Assignments” and much more.
